Bioresonance vs IgG Blood Testing: Which Food Intolerance Test Is Right for You?

If you've been looking into food intolerance testing in Northern Ireland, you've probably come across two very different approaches: bioresonance testing and IgG blood testing. Both can help identify foods that may be contributing to your symptoms, but they work in quite different ways — and understanding those differences can help you make an informed choice about which is right for your situation.
What Is Bioresonance Testing?
Bioresonance testing is a non-invasive, holistic method that works by detecting energetic imbalances in the body. Every cell, tissue and organ emits electromagnetic signals, and bioresonance technology measures these signals to identify where the body may be out of balance. These imbalances can reflect how the body is responding to certain foods, environmental factors, or other stressors.
Helen McGinn, who has been offering bioresonance testing across Northern Ireland for over 20 years, is qualified with the International Society of Homotoxicology. During a bioresonance session at one of her clinics in Belfast, Newry, Lurgan or Newcastle, she uses this technology alongside her clinical knowledge to build a picture of what may be contributing to your symptoms — and provides same-day results along with personalised nutritional guidance.
Bioresonance is particularly well-suited for those who prefer a natural, non-invasive approach, or for those who may not be suitable for blood-based testing. Please note it is not suitable during pregnancy, for those with epilepsy, or for anyone with a medical device such as a pacemaker.
What Is IgG Food Intolerance Testing?
IgG food intolerance testing is a laboratory-based blood test that measures your immune system's IgG antibody response to a range of foods. Elevated IgG antibodies to particular foods may indicate that your immune system has been repeatedly exposed to and is reacting to those foods — a process associated with delayed intolerance symptoms like bloating, fatigue, skin issues and headaches.
Helen has partnered with YorkTest, one of the UK's leading providers of IgG intolerance and IgE allergy testing. The YorkTest Premium Food Intolerance Test analyses your response to over 200 foods from a simple finger-prick blood sample taken at home and sent to a certified laboratory. Results are typically returned within a few days.
YorkTest also offers IgE allergy testing, which measures true allergic responses — a different immune mechanism that tends to produce more immediate reactions such as hives, swelling or anaphylaxis.
How Do They Compare?
The two methods aren't necessarily in competition — they're complementary. Bioresonance takes a whole-body, energetic view, detecting imbalances that may not yet show up in blood markers. IgG testing provides detailed, food-specific scientific data backed by laboratory analysis. Some clients choose to have both for a comprehensive picture, and Helen offers a combined testing option for exactly this reason.
Here's a simple breakdown:
Bioresonance: Non-invasive, same-day results, holistic approach, suitable for most adults and children over 4
IgG Blood Testing: Laboratory-based, tests 200+ specific foods, finger-prick sample, results within days
Combined Testing: Both methods together for the most complete picture available
You can compare all options in detail on our testing options page.
Which Should You Choose?
If you prefer an in-person, holistic assessment with guidance built in, bioresonance testing at one of Helen's Northern Ireland clinics is an excellent starting point. If you want highly specific, food-by-food data or you're unable to attend a clinic, YorkTest's home testing kits provide a convenient and reliable alternative. If budget allows and you want the most thorough assessment possible, the combined option gives you both.
Still unsure? Our FAQ page answers the most common questions clients have before booking, and you can always get in touch directly to discuss your situation with Helen.
