About Food Intolerances
A food intolerance, or food sensitivity, occurs when a person has difficulty digesting certain foods, causing symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, diarrhoea, headaches and various other, sometimes unexpected, symptoms.
The Difference between Food Allergies & Food Intolerances
Understanding the difference between a food intolerance and a food allergy is key to managing your health. According to the NHS, a food intolerance occurs when your body struggles to digest certain foods, causing uncomfortable physical reactions such as bloating, fatigue, or digestive discomfort. It is also known as non-allergic food hypersensitivity.

Allergy UK suggests that up to 45% of people in the UK may suffer from some form of food intolerance.

A food allergy, however, involves an immune system reaction to a specific food, which can cause symptoms ranging from mild irritation to severe allergic responses such as anaphylaxis. If you believe you may have a food allergy, always contact your GP or an allergy specialist for medical advice.

While food intolerances are not life-threatening, they can significantly affect energy, mood, and everyday wellbeing. Identifying problem foods through food intolerance testing can help you restore balance and feel your best.

How we test for Food Intolerances
Helen uses EAV (Electroacupuncture According to Voll) testing, a safe and non-invasive way to assess your body’s energetic responses to foods and potential sensitivities.

During the test, you’ll hold a small metal rod connected to an EAV testing device, while the practitioner gently applies a probe to acupuncture points on the fingers and toes. This process helps identify food intolerances, sensitivities, and potential imbalances in organ systems.

No blood or skin scratching is involved. The test screens for over 80 common food groups and provides immediate results.

I also offer YorkTest IgG Food Intolerance Testing and IgE Allergy Testing to help identify specific food sensitivities and allergies. These blood tests can be done in person or sent anywhere in the UK, making it simple and convenient to get accurate results. Each test provides clear insights into your body’s reactions, helping you take the next step toward better gut health, digestive balance, and overall wellbeing.
